TRANSACTION: Kijiji

Kijiji is a popular Canadian Classifieds site. It began as a start-up within eBay, created by a small number of their employees and was first launched in February 2005 in both Quebec City and Montreal. The rest of Canada saw Kijiji later that November of 2005. The site was intended for people to be able to connect to others within their community by means of trade, bartering, and communication and is reflected in the meaning of their name which is Swahili for ‘village’. Kijiji makes their revenue from advertisements displayed throughout their website as well as the option for people who are trying to promote their own personal ads to pay money to have a better chance of more viewers visiting their personal ad.
