Owned by Microsoft, Bing is the successor to Microsoft’s Live Search and was revealed on May 28th 2009. The name was picked from using focus groups as it was ‘memorable, short, and easy to spell’. The Bing name reminded people of the sound made from the computer as they discovered new things using the search engine. It’s the second most used search engine, but well below the Google giant, although Bing’s video search is more preferable with its use of larger thumbnails, descriptive captions and the fact that you don’t have to leave the Bing site to watch the videos. Bing uses advertising as their source of income reporting earning $7.74 billion in search advertising revenue.
